Dickinson fireplace - old Dickinson fireplace area - new

When our client first toured what would become their future home in Sawgrass Country Club, it was the stunning views from the entry foyer overlooking the golf course and lagoon that initially sold them on the property.  Situated near the tee box on the 8th hole of the west course, the property enjoys one of the best vistas in the entire community.  However, upon closer inspection of the home, one glaring obstacle stood in the way of fully appreciating the panoramic view.

The existing home included a large stone fireplace in the center of a nearly 28' x 22' entertainment space on the back portion of the home.  This massive structure acted as a room divider between the den on the back right and an enclosed covered porch on the back left.  While accomplishing its initial purpose, the over-sized fireplace obstructed the views from the beautifully appointed kitchen at the center of the home.

Working closely with the homeowner and the architect, Aurora Custom Remodeling demolished the large back room all the way to its foundation slab.  The solution was to completely redesign the space into a two-story addition focusing on the extended views from not only the kitchen, but adjacent rooms as well.

Dickinson Kitchen - old Dickinson kitchen - new

The existing kitchen, with its small pass-through bar top, would be completely opened up to the new family room to expose a twelve foot long raised counter top.  In another strategic maneuver, an exterior corner of the home was clipped on an angle to expose views of the new family room from the adjacent dining room and living room.  This one detail greatly improved circulation between all rooms, including better access to the pool and patio.

So what could be better than a panoramic view of the golf course and lagoon from your newly renovated family room?  How about an even better view from the new 2nd floor executive office situated directly above the family room?  Complete with a fully equipped bath and walk-in storage closets, the office features a cantilevered balcony overlooking the pool and patio with views to the south and east.  The design of this space was purposely laid out to provide a viable second master suite option for the home.

two story addition

With twenty-eight new windows, Frenchdoors and sliders on the two-story addition, it is fair to say that no opportunity for a view has been overlooked.  The new family room provides the open entertaining space that was lacking previously, bolstered by the addition of a new bar area and under-stair closet which will become a future wine-cellar.  It is believed that the second floor office provides such picturesque views that even the most committed work-a-holic may be challenged to get much accomplished.
