Raise ceiling height in living room
Create more open floor plan
Remodel kitchen – add family room
Before and After
This older, one-story, beach home had a typical floor plan of compartmentalized rooms, functioning independently from each other. Together with low 8’ high ceilings, the home felt small and uninviting.
Our primary task was to enhance one’s first impression upon entering the home. The current plan featured a very limited view through a narrow entry hall to a small fireplace centered in the distant living room. The reconfigured kitchen absorbed the adjacent breakfast area to become a larger, more interactive, eat-in kitchen.
Before and After
The very ordinary dining room was transformed into a bright, colorful dining experience. It radiates elegance with its clean lines and classical millwork detailing.
Our challenge was to create more of a “WOW” factor for guests visiting the home. The open kitchen is now oriented to face the dining room. Together with the enlarged living room, they form the new social hub of activity in the home.
The reconfigured kitchen absorbed the adjacent breakfast area to become a larger, more interactive eat-in kitchen. Stained rustic heart pine floors, marble countertops, a glazed cut-brick tile backsplash, and craftsman-style cabinets complete the timeless elegance of this remodeled space.
The addition of exposed beams and tongue & groove paneling in a driftwood finish delivered a bright openness and casual feel to the home’s new primary focal point.
With a color palette of royal blue, soft white, muted grey, sand, azure and dark wood tones, this once old beach cottage now evokes the simple charm of casual beachside living.
